In this role, you will have an opportunity to learn about multiple therapeutic areas, travel to medical conferences, interact with leading experts in the medical field. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with team members in creating both print and digital deliverables, including supplements, video productions, and materials for medical advisory board events.

 

The clinical communications team strives to meet high standards of quality, accuracy, and editorial relevance for our medical publications. The Associate Medical Writer/Editor requires excellent attention to detail; the ability to write, edit, and review clinical manuscripts per American Medical Association (AMA) Manual of Style 10th edition, integrate the comments of multiple reviewers into manuscripts, and independently develop clinical content. We are looking for an energetic self-starter who is able develop clinical content on a variety of projects encompassing multiple therapeutic areas.

 

The candidate should be able to work collaboratively with other team members. This role may require up to 10% travel, primarily to medical conferences and advisory board meetings. The Associate Medical Writer/Editor is primarily responsible for assisting clinical project managers with the process of developing scientifically-oriented content, publications, and other projects. There is also shared responsibility for assisting in content development for emerging publications developed by the team.

Responsibilities

  • Perform literature reviews of disease states to develop content outline, manuscripts, and other materials, such as monographs, presentations, and videos
  • Ensure scientific and clinical accuracy of content and relevance to target audiences
  • Manuscript editing/proofreading. Ensures accuracy of the manuscripts with respect to formatting, reference and fact checking, and style.
  • Content development. Research or summarize project information for abstracts, emails, newsletters, clinical monographs, scientific journal manuscripts, and other materials
  • Managing of references and permissions. Research and retrieve literature needed for project content development; manage internal library of resources. Request and track permissions as needed.
  • Online content management. Translate and format print projects and related content for use on company websites (ie, Word/PDF to HTML); develop and schedule promotional email campaigns
    • Utilize content management system to post content to the Web
  • Shared responsibility – editorial development:
    • Writing and editing online news, features, and blogs as needed
    • Conduct interviews and writing descriptions of the content
    • Generate ideas for original content that complements an editorial strategy
    • Create stories, social media strategies, and new ways to present content

Qualifications

  • 2+ years pharmaceutical/medical education editing experience
  • Biological/ life sciences degree with relevant editorial/publishing experience.
  • Knowledge of best practices in AMA (10th edition) style
  • Attention to detail and exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and to work well under pressure
  • Proficient in basic grammar and spelling rules
  • Knowledge of all proofing and editing symbols
  • Good working knowledge of technology and software, including Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, InDesign or similar software
